At 20 Grafton Street, Avantgarde Tiling delivered a combination of natural stone flooring and wall finishes, ceramic tiling, and bespoke recycled terrazzo staircases across the Reception area, stair cores, and end-of-trip facilities.

The project featured travertine slabs (planks carved and shaped to create a bespoke fluted stone design) and other natural stone installations, alongside bespoke recycled terrazzo staircases designed to create continuity between the architectural spaces throughout the building.

Sustainable Approach

A key feature of the project was the sustainable approach taken towards material reuse and recycled terrazzo production. Rather than disposing of the travertine offcuts generated during the fabrication of the reception slabs, the material was carefully processed into recycled aggregates and reincorporated into the bespoke cement-based terrazzo treads and risers.

This circular material approach allowed the natural stone in Reception areas and recycled terrazzo staircases to remain visually connected while significantly reducing material waste and unnecessary disposal.

The recycled travertine aggregates became an integral part of the final terrazzo mix, transforming surplus stone into a new architectural finish used throughout the stair cores.

Alongside the recycled terrazzo staircases, the project also included:

• Large-format travertine floor tiles;
• Stone planks carved and shaped to create a bespoke fluted stone design;
• Brass trim inserts integrated as anti-slip stripes;
• Ceramic tiling to showers, WCs, and changing areas;
• Waterproofing and decoupling system;
• Raised access floor tiling applications.

The result is a coordinated finish package combining technical delivery, natural stone craftsmanship, bespoke terrazzo design, and a more sustainable approach to material use.
