334 Oxford Street – Bespoke Terrazzo Flooring
At 334 Oxford Street in London, Avantgarde Tiling delivered over 1,800 m² of bespoke terrazzo flooring and architectural features, including nine levels of lift lobbies, approximately 500 terrazzo stair treads and reception desk elements. Featuring custom-developed terrazzo mixes, in-situ polishing and low-CO₂ binder technology, the project combines architectural precision, durability and responsible material innovation.
Bespoke Terrazzo – Designed to Complement the Architecture
Our team developed a bespoke terrazzo mix, carefully selecting aggregates, binder composition and colour to complement the retained concrete elements.A custom-matched grout was also developed to minimise visible joints, while in-situ polishing ensured a consistent, continuous finish across the flooring.
Terrazzo Flooring, Staircases & Bespoke Features
The project included approximately 500 bespoke terrazzo stair treads, each featuring a 55 mm downstand and installed onto a metal frame substrate.Around 11,000 black granite anti-slip inserts were incorporated into the treads, combining distinctive detailing with functional slip resistance.
The same terrazzo mix was extended to the reception desk tops, creating a unified material palette throughout the building.
Sustainability & Material Innovation
With approximately 60% of the existing concrete substructure retained, the refurbishment prioritised resource efficiency and reduced material demand. Our bespoke terrazzo incorporates recycled materials and an alternative lowCO₂ cementitious binder, supporting lower-impact material selection without compromising strength, durability or aesthetic quality.
The Result
The completed project demonstrates the versatility of bespoke terrazzo, bringing together seamless finishes, architectural detailing and responsible material innovation. From flooring and staircases to reception features, every element reflects Avantgarde Tiling's commitment to quality, precision and craftsmanship.
